Kennedy
Where were you when Kennedy was slain
And all the world in bitter sorrow wept.
Could hope in human hearts live again
When peace and truth in all the nations slept.
His faults we knew, his trysts in open view,
The failures of his presidency shown
To those wished no change nor all the new
Ideas among the young that he had sown.
My mother waited for the local train
Arriving in a soft and sleepy town
I saw her face contort in searing pain;
'He's dead' she cried 'and we are left alone.'
I knew that from the earth a light had gone
A world that through him found the upward way,
Prepared for all the battles to be won
And the promise that sang of the dawn of a brighter day.
In India myself I sought and more,
I found the key to unlock the inner door.
